Jakarta, Indonesia – 9 February 2025 – Present in 29 countries, with 195 member organizations, The AI Alliance – a global non-profit consortium, is dedicated to open-source AI innovation. Co-founded by IBM and Meta, the AI Alliance has announced the expansion of the organization to Indonesia, a landmark step in advancing responsible artificial intelligence and digital innovation across the region. This adds to the other regional chapters in counties across APAC such as Thailand, Japan, and India.
AI is projected to add US$366 billion to the country's gross domestic product by 2030. According to the latest IBM CEO Study, 61% of Indonesian companies are actively adopting AI agents and prepared to scale them across the organization. However, only 27% of respondents report that the new AI systems delivered the expected return on investment (ROI).
Other challenges include building a skilled workforce to develop and implement AI solutions, improving digital infrastructure to support AI adoption, ensuring the protection of personal data and privacy, and addressing concerns around trust and safety, such as bias and fairness, transparency and explainability, cybersecurity, and accountability mechanisms for AI-related errors or harm.
The Indonesian chapter of the AI Alliance is dedicated to address such challenges by building and advancing open-source AI solutions to further democratize and unlock the country’s full AI potential. By co-creating AI tools, resources, and educational opportunities alongside the AI Alliance community, it seeks to empower local businesses, developers, and communities. Ciputra University is the first new Indonesian Chapter member, with a number of other organizations filing their candidacy.

We look forward to engaging with Indonesian stakeholders to unlock new opportunities and address local challenges.”
